Newborn or young puppies can have their proper development interrupted if they lack adequate conditions and nutrition, especially if they lack maternal milk.
A newborn puppy depends on its mother and maternal milk to avoid problems of malnutrition, dehydration, and compromised immunity. Maternal milk provides nutrients and passive immunity (maternal antibodies that protect it against infections and diseases.) They may not even be able to regulate their body temperature.
Proper nutrition can help ensure that the puppy stage, including weaning, is the best for its proper development and quality of life.
Weaning a puppy begins around one month of age and lasts until seven or eight weeks of age. Normally the mother will regurgitate food for the puppy (its teeth already hurt to extract maternal milk). Therefore, it is advisable that, in adopted or orphaned puppies, they are provided with the same nutrients that the mother would naturally provide.
Proper nutrition, along with proper vaccination schedules, basic care, and veterinary care, will help puppies grow properly, without compromising their body development.
For orphaned offspring, unable to suckle or with breastfeeding problems. Lactadiet birth and weaning are a source of suitable nutrients for development.
